2020 SGM
The Story
Well, this used to be our GSM, but since our crop of Grenache from our old bush vines was so small in 2020, and since we are required to name the wine in order of varietal precedence, it has had to become, for this vintage at least (and probably for the 2021 we think, an SGM. So, its 57% Shiraz, 27% Grenache and 16% Malbec this time around. All the varieties are picked separately (when they taste best), fermented separately and aged separately. And then, when we make the blend, we just see what works together. We’re aiming for harmony, complexity, depth, texture and a naturally vibrant fruit character. So any oak we use is usually older and we want lively and generous flavours plucked direct from nature.
The Wine
A really deep and vibrant colour leads to a nose of raspberry, blueberry, cassis, bramble, rhubarb, mulberry, black cherry and lots of spice. The medium-bodied palate absolutely oozes with fresh, dark, natural fruit, and tannin and spice provide delicious balance. Generous and lively with a delicious weight and depth, the fruit goes on and on into a long and lingering finish.

Wonderfully versatile – lovely to drink on its own but will go with all sorts of food. Try with roast chicken, a beef stew or roast lamb with garlic and rosemary. Bone marrow on toast and jugged hare are other weekly treats that would work well.
