2017 Jeanneret Malbec
- Clare Valley

Wow! It’s an assault on your senses in the best possible way. Firstly, the colour is extraordinary and that’s what you get with Malbec. It’s got really, really vibrant aromas of forest floor and dark, brooding fruits lurking in the background. And there’s some nice French oak too. Just a hint and just enough. And then, there’s that palate that’s chock full of tannins – really soft ones. It’s an absolute cracker and I can tell it’s going to be my favourite wine for a while.

Beef. Rump, sirloin or fillet cooked medium rare (or however you like); the wine enhances the meat and the meat softens, and brings out the best in, the wine.
Merguez sausages are rather splendid too.

A gorgeous rendition of the variety; it is sweetly fragrant on the nose showing blackberry, blueberry compote, vanilla and cedar characters with nuances of violet and warm spice. The palate is concentrated and succulent with plush texture and velvety mouthfeel, wonderfully framed by polished tannins. Delectable and very impressive. At its best: now to 2025.
Attractive ripe plums and blueberries here with a gently tarry edge and deep-set oak spice on the palate, swathed in ripe plums. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
