Description

Deliciously layered, the individual characteristics of the 3 varieties are so apparent. Fruit forward, leading to more savoury notes, the nose is a complex medley of all the good things about Grenache blends. Red fruits and spice. The palate is medium weight, soft and rich yet still fresh and textured. A cracker (if it’s not obvious I really like this wine) that’s very, very drinkable now and will develop elegantly over the next few years.

It is instantly appealing on the nose showing Black Doris plum, cranberry, thyme and cocoa characters with nuances of vanilla and almond. The palate delivers terrific fruit richness and intensity, while remaining balanced and structured with plenty of silky tannins. Generous, flavoursome and engaging. At its best: 2019 to 2026.

When is a GSM not a GSM? When in the Clare Valley, and the mourvedre is malbec. Deeply coloured; it is full-bodied, and all the flavours have ended up in the bottle, but it’s not too tannic or over-extracted, it simply needs time or a bbq or both.

An incredible value GSM with the usual mataro component replaced with the fresh, acidic kick of malbec. Super savoury with stunning brightness and vibrancy.
